Year 7 Catch-up Premium Grant Report: 2018- 19

The Department for Education has allocated approximately £500 per pupil for the number of year 7 pupils who did not achieve the required standard in reading and/or mathematics at Key Stage 2. This is based on Key Stage 2 data and the autumn school census. It is calculated as a percentage of the cohort based on historical data rather than by specific student.

  • In 2016-17 the allocation of funds for this purpose to Brampton Manor  Academy was £22,828
  • In 2017-18 the allocation of funds for this purpose to Brampton Manor Academy was £25,294
  • In 2018 - 19 the allocation of funds for this purpose to Brampton Manor Academy was £25,484
  • In 2018-19 these monies are being used to fund:
  • A reading intervention programme: Lexia.
  • The establishment of a specific class and curriculum, focused on the needs of our lowest performing students on entry, who need a specialised curriculum to succeed.
  • Small group, intensive support with reading for meaning and writing.
  • Reduced class sizes in English and Maths to address the needs of targeted students.
  • LSA support and intervention with literacy and numeracy throughout the curriculum.
  • The purchase of texts and resources for small, specifically focused classes in English and Mathematics.
  • Specialist training of teachers to teach literacy and numeracy to identified students across the curriculum.
  • Additional teaching in Mathematics focusing on developing the numeracy and algebra of targeted students. Additional Mathematics homework clubs support targeted students.
  • Extra staffing used to support students in both Maths and English classes. 
  • In 2018/19 the impact of the intervention can also be directly seen through levels of progress made. In 2018 the impact of the English and Literacy intervention showed that 19 of the 48 students reaching the required standard by the end of year 7 with all students making significant progress over the academic year. The catch up programme in 2018-2019 has continued this success and continues to improve the outcomes for students. Out of the 42 students who were identified on entry to the school in year 7 as needing further support, only 12 students will continue to need intensive literacy support, and 10 students will continue to need numeracy intervention, in year 8 to ensure they reach the expected standard.
